Consultancy in psychiatry combined with a clinical professorship in acute psychiatry
A clinical position as consultant of psychiatry at the Department of Mental Health Centre Copenhagen, The Mental Health Services at Copenhagen University Hospital - is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of acute psychiatry at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department
The emergency department of Mental Health Center Copenhagen is situated at Bispebjerg and comprised of the psychiatric emergency care units (A0, A1 and A2), the psychiatric emergency room and related functions (the emergency outpatient service, the psychiatric emergency phone service), and the liaison team. Mental Health Center Copenhagen is currently situated at several locations, but from spring 2026 most of the beds will be located at Bispebjerg when the new and modern facilities open and expand the current location considerably. Four inpatient bed units will remain at Frederiksberg Hospital specializing in affective disorders.
Mental Health Centre Copenhagen is treating both inpatients and outpatients. The centre employs around 1200 full time equivalent staff, houses 253 psychiatric beds, performs approximately 85,000 out-patient contacts, and handles 7,500 emergency patients each year. Mental Health Centre Copenhagen houses several research groups and produces nationally and internationally recognized high-quality research within several diagnostic areas including affective disorders and psychosis.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The clinical functions of the consultant will take place within the emergency department of Mental Health Centre Copenhagen at Bispebjerg. The consultant will engage in clinical work including supervision, initiation and support of clinical research and quality improvement projects within the field of emergency psychiatry to advance and promote the field.
In addition, the consultant will participate in ongoing and upcoming collaborative projects with Bispebjerg Hospital to improve and development patient-centered treatment and care.
The consultant will work closely together with the team of consultants in the emergency department (A0, A1 and A2) as well as with the interdisciplinary acute ward managements. As part of the daily clinical work, the consultant will facilitate the implementation of national clinical guidelines and corresponding national clinical quality indicators. The consultant is expected to actively participate in the education of medical students and junior doctors training in psychiatry.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in the emergency department and clinical professor of acute psychiatry the Department of Mental Health Centre Copenhagen, The Mental Health Services at Copenhagen University Hospital wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in psychiatry.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Department of Mental Health Centre Copenhagen, The Mental Health Services at Copenhagen University Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Mental Health Center Copenhagen.
The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Mental Health Center Copenhagen. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Mental Health Centre Copenhagen, The Mental Health Services, Copenhagen University Hospital.
