PhD project in Amylin Research at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen

At Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC), we have a vacant position for an ambitious PhD student to join our research group, Translational Type 1 Diabetes Research (TT1DR). SDCC is part of the Capital Region of Denmark (RegionH) and is a world-leading research institute and specialised diabetes care hospital.

The project
Amylin is a hormone produced by pancreatic beta cells and co-secreted with insulin. It promotes satiety and regulates glucose metabolism by reducing postprandial blood glucose levels – an effect believed to be mediated through delayed gastric emptying and suppression of glucagon secretion. A short-acting amylin analogue have been used as adjunct therapies in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. More recently, novel long-acting amylin analogues have demonstrated significant potential for promoting weight loss and improving glycaemic control in individuals with type 2 diabetes. This project aims to investigate the metabolic effects of a new amylin analogue in healthy participants during extensive weight loss.

What we offer
The PhD student will be a member of the metabolic TT1DR group, consisting of three dedicated research teams headed by Professor Flemming Pociot. We offer creative and stimulating multidisciplinary research conditions with top-class clinical research, laboratory, and office facilities. A friendly atmosphere, cross-disciplinary collaborations and research disciplines are characteristics of the research environment at SDCC. We have close interactions with clinicians for patient-related research and an international network for collaborative opportunities. The PhD student will be part of a team consisting of doctors, nurses, and dietitians working closely together on the amylin project headed by Chief Physician Jonatan Ising Bagger.

Terms
The candidate will be offered a full-time position for a period of three years. Employment will be in accordance with the relevant local agreements within Region H.

Qualifications
The candidate must hold an MD degree and be able to communicate in Danish. Candidates with experience in research with publications are especially well qualified. Creativity, curiosity, independent thinking, good communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic and versatile team and environment are all important qualities.

During the trial period, you will engage in daily interactions with participants during visit consultations and support the coordination of trial execution and closeout activities. Therefore, prior clinical experience and strong trial oversight skills are preferred.

Application
Submit your motivated application, including your CV and documentation of diplomas (master’s degree level) no later than August 8th, 2025.

Start date
The anticipated start date is September 1st, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
