Quality og Life Research center (QoLRC)
Quality of Life Research Center (QoLRC) at the Haematology Research Unit, Odense University Hospital, and the University of Southern Denmark is seeking an experienced scientific staff member at a level equivalent to a completed PhD for a one-year position, with the possibility of extension. The position is full-time, or potentially part-time, and the start date is as soon as possible, preferably by December 1, 2025.
About QoLRC
QoLRC was established in 2017 with the vision of creating an interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary centre for research into health-related quality of life at an international level.
New treatment options have improved survival for many patients with chronic diseases, including cancer patients. This has also raised the desire for these patients to feel physically, mentally, and socially well-functioning. There is increasing awareness in the healthcare system about the importance of focusing on patients' quality of life experiences and integrating this into the overall patient journey.
A central component of QoLRC’s work is the Nordic collaboration in the Nordic Myeloma Study Group (NMSG) Myeloma| Nmsg. NMSG has conducted clinical studies on multiple myeloma for 35 years, and QoLRC has led and supported the collection, analysis, and reporting of quality of life data using validated questionnaires in these studies. The activity in NMSG studies has been increasing.
QoLRC serves as a core facility for quality of life research and is an integral part of NMSG. In addition, QoLRC has established its own research and collaboration with other investigators, including the Danish Myeloma Study Group (DMSG) Dansk Myelomatose Studiegruppe. A notable project in this collaboration is a Danish study that collected quality of life data from 700 Danish multiple myeloma patients. This project has so far led to two PhD projects, one of which is ongoing.
A primary focus for QoLRC is at patients with multiple myeloma, but the centre has also conducted projects on patients with other haematological diseases and contributed to the validation of new tools, such as the HM-PRO questionnaire, which is aimed at patients with haematological cancers.
About the Haematology Research Unit (HFE-X)
QoLRC is part of the Haematology Research Unit (HFE-X) at the Department of Haematology, Odense University Hospital (OUH) Forskning i Hæmatologisk Afdeling X. HFE-X is a large and active research unit with several experienced researchers specialising in the design and execution of both qualitative, quantitative, and epidemiological research projects. HFE-X also has a research laboratory that focuses on disease biology at the cellular and molecular level.
About the Position
The activity at QoLRC is growing, and we need additional scientific staff to contribute to the analysis and reporting of quality of life data. The scientific staff member will, depending on experience and need, participate in one or more ongoing or upcoming NMSG studies. The scientific staff member is also expected to independently write applications to private and public funding bodies, including applications for future project salaries. HFE-X has employed a fundraiser and research coordinator who can assist with preparing and submitting funding applications.
The scientific staff member will be organisationally placed with a scientific reference to the scientific leader of QoLRC, assistant professor Lene Kongsgaard Nielsen, and a departmental reference to the research leader/professor, with a daily operational reference to the head of the Haematology Research Unit (HFE-X).

- Has strong communication skills, including the ability to present research findings clearly and effectively in both written and spoken Danish and English.
- Can work independently while also being a team player and able to achieve results both independently and through collaboration with others.
- Has experience in fundraising from private and public funds.
- Is committed to contributing to the continued development of a dynamic and appreciative culture through personal conduct, role models, relationship-building, motivation, and driving engagement and results.
We offer:
- Employment in a well-established research unit and a centre for health-related quality of life research.
- An open and trusting work environment with short decision-making paths.
