Psychiatrist with research expertise (MD/PhD) in eating disorders

The Center for Eating and feeding Disorders Research (CEDaR), Mental Health Services of the Capital Region of Denmark and Copenhagen University, Denmark, is looking for a Senior Researcher (Assistant/Associate Professor level) in Eating Disorders for a permanent position combining research (60–80%) and clinical work (20–40%). The candidate will hold a PhD (or equivalent), be trained in adult or child psychiatry, and have experience working with eating disorders.
 

The position

The position is offered at 80–100% full-time equivalent. The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a range of research projects in eating disorders within a large grant led by Professor Nadia Micali and to develop their own portfolio of projects.

 

Tasks

Research: Primary academic tasks and responsibilities will vary depending on the candidate’s level of expertise and may include leading and managing research projects, supervising and mentoring junior staff, conducting data analyses, writing manuscripts, developing independent research projects, and applying for funding in collaboration with in-house, national, and international collaborators. In this position, you will supervise and line manage junior colleagues (PhD students, interns, etc.) and therefore have the opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills. You will report to the Head of CEDaR, Professor Nadia Micali.

Clinical: You will contribute clinically to the outpatient department of the Capital Region Specialist Centre for Eating Disorders, led by Dr. Else Marie Olsen. Your tasks will include assessing new patients, developing treatment plans in collaboration with clinical staff, assessing psychiatric comorbidities, and initiating medical treatment when needed. You will also play an important role in implementing research within the clinic. You will report to Dr. Else Marie Olsen.

 

Environment

The Center for Eating and feeding Disorders Research (CEDaR) is a multicultural and multidisciplinary team recently established with a large portfolio of grants across epidemiological, genetic, neuroimaging, and clinical intervention studies in feeding and eating disorders. We are a dynamic, collaborative, and international team that is rapidly growing. The unit has several international collaborations with the UK, US, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Switzerland.

Research in eating disorders is a highly prioritized research area within the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark. We are strongly committed to conducting research at the highest international level, with the aim of providing new insights into the causes of eating disorders and improving treatment for patients.

 

Qualifications

The ideal applicant:

  • Is highly motivated to drive and pursue research in eating disorders.
  • Has completed training as an adult and/or child and adolescent psychiatrist in Denmark, Sweden, or Norway.
  • Has clinical experience working with individuals with eating disorders.
  • Holds a PhD in neuroscience, neurobiology, metabolism, physiology, or a related field.
  • Has experience conducting eating disorders research.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Is self-directed and proactive.
  • Is a team player.
  • Has strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills in English, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Is fluent in Danish or another Scandinavian language.

 

Conditions

Salary, pension, and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisations.

The position is in accordance with standard Danish labour practices, including a 37-hour work week, six weeks of paid vacation per annum, funded parental leave, matched pension contributions, enrolment in national healthcare, and labour union representation.

The position is initially offered for a fixed term of one year with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Non-Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark in the past 10 years.
