Consultancy in psychiatry combined with a clinical professorship in Digital Psychiatry

A clinical position as consultant of the Mental Health Centre Copenhagen at Copenhagen University Hospital, Mental Health Services in the Capital Region (From the first of January 2026, Mental Health Center Copenhagen will be part of Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospitals) is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of psychiatry at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.                            

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department
Mental Health Center Copenhagen is currently situated at several locations, and by spring 2026 four inpatient bed units will be specialized in affective disorders at Frederiksberg Hospital, while the remaining beds will be located at Bispebjerg and Bornholm.

Mental Health Centre Copenhagen treats both inpatients and outpatients. The center employs around 1400 full-time equivalent staff, houses 270 psychiatric beds, performs approximately 85,000 outpatient contacts, and handles 7,500 emergency patients each year.  The center holds several research groups and produces nationally and internationally recognized high-quality research within various diagnostic areas, including affective disorders and psychosis.

 

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The specialized inpatient units for affective disorders at Mental Health Center Copenhagen are situated in Frederiksberg. The clinical functions of the consultancy will be carried out within the affective disorder unit 121. The clinical work includes being in charge of the treatment and care of patients, supervision, initiation, and support of clinical research and quality improvement projects primarily within the field of affective disorders to advance and promote the field.

In addition, the consultant will participate in ongoing and upcoming collaborative projects, especially with KAG-bipolar and Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital, to improve and develop patient-centered treatment and care. The consultant will facilitate the implementation of national clinical guidelines and corresponding national clinical quality indicators, as part of the daily work.

The consultant will work closely with the team of consultants in the affective disorders departments, as well as with the interdisciplinary wards of the center.

 

Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in psychiatry and clinical professor of digital psychiatry, the Mental Health Centre Copenhagen wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. The consultant is expected to hold a leading position in education and actively participate in the education of medical students and junior doctors undergoing training in psychiatry.

 

Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialists in psychiatry.

 

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the Mental Health Services (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Mental Health Centre Copenhagen at Copenhagen University Hospital, Mental Health Services in the Capital Region (from first of January 2026; Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital).

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Mental Health Centre Copenhagen. Additional support and details on the working conditions must also be negotiated with the head of Mental Health Centre Copenhagen.
