Consultancy in Internal medicine: Endocrinology combined with a Clinical professorship in Internal medicine: Endocrinology with special focus on management of obesity
A clinical position as consultant of Internal medicine: Endocrinology at the Department of Pulmonary Diseases and Endocrinology at the Copenhagen University Hospital - Amager and Hvidovre is open for appointment as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Internal medicine: Endocrinology with special focus on management of obesity at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department
Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre is one of Denmark’s largest hospitals, located across two sites in southern Copenhagen. With 35 departments and 685 beds, it serves nearly 600,000 citizens, handling over 80,000 admissions and close to 600,000 outpatient visits annually. The hospital is a teaching facility affiliated with the University of Copenhagen.
Endocrinology Section is part of the Department of Pulmonary Diseases and Endocrinology. The section operates at both Hvidovre and Amager sites, offering:
- Clinical Services: Management of diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal disorders.
- Specialized Care: National center for bariatric surgery complications, medical weight loss programs, and rare bone/calcium disorders.
- Activity:
- Hvidovre: ~11,500 patients / 40,000 outpatient visits
- Amager: ~2,200 patients / 10,000 outpatient visits
- Education: Hosts medical students and junior doctors; five associate professors across both sites.
- Research: Focus on diabetes remission, gut hormones (GLP-1, PYY, etc.), weight loss interventions, hypoglycemia, and bone metabolism.
- Clinical staff: 11 and 4.8 FTE endocrine specialists at Hvidovre and Amager, respectively, supported by junior doctors, nurses, and dieticians.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
It is expected that the candidate, on an equal footing with the department’s other specialists in endocrinology, takes part in the outpatient clinical work with a special focus on the clinical tasks in the Obesity and nutrition section, including the management of patients before and after bariatric surgery as well as patients in medical weight loss treatment. Rounds in the Endocrinology ward will also be part of the clinical work as far as working hours allow. Participation in the department's on-call obligations is not expected.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in Internal medicine: endocrinology and clinical professor of Internal medicine: Endocrinology with special focus on management of obesity the Department of Pulmonary Diseases and Endocrinology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal medicine: Endocrinology.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital - Amager and Hvidovre.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Endocrinology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Endocrinology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Amager and Hvidovre.
