Consultancy position in Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology, Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet combined with a clinical professorship in Otorhinolaryngology with special focus on focus on diagnostics and MedTech

A clinical position as senior consultant at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology at Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical MedTech professor of Otorhinolaryngology with special focus on focus on diagnostics and MedTech at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Technical University Denmark (DTU).

With this new position the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology at Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical technical research and teaching in collaboration within the Greater Technical University Hospital of Copenhagen (TUH) within diagnostics and MedTech.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the ENT consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology at Rigshospitalet is the largest ENT department in Denmark and one of the largest in Northern Europe.

The Department is organized on two locations with a major part at Rigshospitalet. The Department is organized I 4 major areas, i.e. Ear, Nose, Throat, and Audiology all further sub-divided.

The Department has more than 300 health and technical staff members including 4 medical professorships and 2 affiliated professors. Furthermore, the Department has another 15 associated professorships affiliated. The Department trains more than 350 pre-graduate medical students per year and has numerous international and national observership/fellowships visiting.

In 2024 was the total number of peer reviewed scientific publications 118 and 39 ongoing PhD students.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the Department

The main function of the Department is healthcare within head and neck cancer, ear disorders (including audiology).

The applicant is expected to perform the task of medico-technical equipment manager in the Department. With the digital transition to cloud storage of scans and imaging examinations (e.g. endoscopy), the applicant must also help ensure this transition and support the use of and research in artificial intelligence. It is expected that the applicant will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the Department's outpatient imaging (endoscopy and ultrasound) so that it is correctly performed and image documented according to expected standards for storing medical images in a RIS/PACS system. In addition, the applicant is also expected to be responsible for the quality and professional guidance for ultrasound-guided procedures and treatments performed in the Department.

Furthermore, the applicant is expected to conduct international research within the field and be responsible for ensuring innovation and commercialization of research/innovation in the Department. The task for the new consultant and MedTech professor will be clinical consultations and applied research partly in collaboration with medico-technical industry and DTU. Additionally, the new consultant and MedTech professor need to organize research with other ENT departments national and international.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology and clinical professor of Otorhinolaryngology with special focus special focus on diagnostics and MedTech at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. Accordantly, basic and advanced medical teaching in the field of ENT and related diagnostics and MedTech is required. In addition, the Department has announced several PhD positions to be principal supervised by the new consultant and MedTech professor.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in an airway speciality like Otorhinolaryngology.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Department of Health Technology at DTU (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) for the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and DTU.

As MedTech professor 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Technology, DTU. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Head of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology at Rigshospitalet. The MedTech professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology at Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet.
