Clinical assistant in Amylin Research at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen
At Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC), we are inviting applications for a medical doctor to serve as a clinical assistant (maternity cover) within our Translational Type 1 Diabetes Research (TT1DR) group. SDCC is part of the Capital Region of Denmark (Region H) and is a world leading research institute and specialised diabetes care hospital.
Project background, key duties and responsibilities
Amylin is a pancreatic hormone released together with insulin and known for its effects on satiety and gastric emptying. Since it shares a receptor system with calcitonin, amylin may also play an important role in bone metabolism. People with type 1 diabetes lack amylin and have a higher risk of osteoporosis, whereas those with type 2 diabetes typically have elevated amylin levels and higher bone density. Animal and cell studies show that amylin affects bone metabolism, though human data remain limited. As amylin–calcitonin combinations are now under development, this clinical research study seeks to understand their potential benefits for bone health during weight loss.
Responsibilities and experience you will gain as a part of the team:
- Daily participant contact, including screening activities, monitoring side effects, and supporting medication adjustments
- Close interdisciplinary collaboration within a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, dietitians, and other hospital departments.
- Hands-on experience with clinical research, drug trials and GCP
- Practical insight into protocol management, data collection and documentation
- Development of strong coordination and project-management skills
- A deeper understanding of metabolic diseases, current treatments, and emerging therapies
What we offer
The clinical assistant will be a member of the metabolic TT1DR group, which is headed by Chief Physician Jonatan Ising Bagger and Professor Flemming Pociot, and currently consists of more than twenty dedicated researchers in three teams.
We offer creative and stimulating multidisciplinary research conditions with top-class clinical research, laboratory, and office facilities. A friendly atmosphere and intercross collaborations and research disciplines are characteristics of the research environment at SDCC. We have close interactions with clinicians for patient-related research and an international network for collaborative opportunities.
This position offers hands-on experience in clinical research with strong potential for extension in an opportunity-rich research environment.
Terms
The candidate will be offered a full-time position for a period of one years. Employment will be in accordance with the relevant local agreements within Region H.
Qualifications
The candidate must hold a MD degree. Other qualifications we are looking for in a candidate:
- The ability to work responsibly and independently with participants in close collaboration with a senior doctor

- Strong collaboration and communication skills (Danish and English)
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
- A strong interest in research, including creativity, curiosity and independent thinking
- An interest in the understanding of metabolic diseases
Those with prior experience in these fields will be particularly well qualified.
