Consultancy in Clinical Biochemistry combined with a clinical professorship in Clinical Biochemistry with special focus on genomic medicine.

A clinical position as consultant at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Copenhagen University Hospital -Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Clinical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department

Department of Clinical Biochemistry is part of the Diagnostic Center and comprises approximately 300 employees, including medical technologists, medical doctors, clinical academics and others. The department produces over 9 million analyses per year and is highly scientifically productive as well. The department Is ISO15189 accredited.

This consultancy is in the Core Facility of molecular biology with specific focus on genomic medicine. This section comprises approximately 80 employees, including technicians, molecular biologists, doctors, bioinformaticians, engineers, medical secretaries, and others. The Core Facility works on analyzing the genome and transcriptome in both hereditary and non-hereditary conditions and consists of a laboratory section, a bioinformatics section and a clinical reporting section. The analyses are primarily based on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).

The Core Facility of molecular biology holds a combined high-throughput DNA/RNA sequencing and bioinformatics platform that offers a wide-range of genomic and transcriptomic analyses, including human whole-genome sequencing, to hospitals in Region Hovedstaden and Region Sjælland as well as the National genome sequencing initiative.

The Core Facility partners with the Danish National Genome Center, and participate and contribute with sequencing, bioinformatics, and quality assessment for the national genome sequencing initiative.

The overall research aim of the Core Facility is to advance therapeutic diagnostics through an understanding of basic biology while incorporating molecular biology, including genomic medicine. We strive to support the number of patients that can benefit from targeted treatment.

Clinical functions and focus areas of Consultancy

The Core Facility offers a stimulating environment where medical doctors, biologists and bioinformaticians work together to deliver high-quality precision medicine and research. We collaborate closely with other laboratory medical specialties and clinicians. Our analysis has direct implications for diagnosis of patients leading to better treatment for a variety of rare and more common genetic diseases, infections, and cancer. The consultant will be heading the section involved in interpretation of the curated data providing high quality reports for medical colleagues. Furthermore, the consultant will be in charge of the section of bioinformatics and will collaborate closely with the other consultants and clinical academics in the Core Facility.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in and clinical professor of Clinical Biochemistry, the Department of Clinical Biochemistry wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching with specific focus on genomic medicine.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Clinical Biochemistry.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Clinical Biochemistry. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Clinical Biochemistry, Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet.
