Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2-year position) Functional Imaging Unit, Department of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine

Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark

The Functional Imaging Unit at Rigshospitalet–Glostrup is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a 2-year position within the project “Regulation of Brain Glucose Metabolism and Cerebral Blood Flow in Patients with Depression,” funded by a Lundbeck Foundation Experiment Grant.

About the Project

Patients with depression may exhibit dysregulation of cerebral metabolism. This project investigates cerebral glucose and oxygen metabolism, blood flow, and lactate concentration in individuals with moderate to severe depression using advanced neuroimaging.  All imaging will be conducted on a state-of-the-art hybrid PET‑MRI scanner at Rigshospitalet–Blegdamsvej. The postdoctoral fellow will play a central role in project management, patient recruitment, neuroimaging, data analysis, and scientific dissemination.

About the research environment

The Functional Imaging Unit (FIU), headed by Professor Henrik B.W. Larsson, is an MRI research group within the Department of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine at Rigshospitalet-Glostrup. The unit's main research focus is brain physiology investigated through advanced MRI and PET techniques. The FIU collaborates closely with a range of clinical research groups, with particular emphasis on psychiatry, multiple sclerosis, stroke, diabetes, and aging.

Qualifications

A medical degree with clinical experience in affective disorders is required, and candidates must hold a PhD in neuroscience, psychiatry, or a related field. The ideal candidate can perform diagnostic evaluations of depressive disorders and manage the recruitment and clinical care of patients with depression. Previous research experience in cerebral physiology related to depressive disorders will be considered a strong advantage. As the position requires the candidate to independently and safely perform MRI and PET acquisitions, prior experience with MRI or PET is preferred. Experience with project management, participant recruitment, preparation of applications for ethical and data protection approvals, data management including REDCap, and the analysis of MRI or PET images is an asset. Strong communication skills in both Danish and English, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, are essential.

What We Offer

We offer a stimulating multidisciplinary research environment with access to state-of-the-art laboratory and imaging facilities. The working atmosphere is friendly, collaborative, and characterized by strong interdisciplinary interaction. FIU and its collaborators maintain extensive national and international networks, providing excellent opportunities for scientific exchange and career development.
