Consultancy in paediatric haematology and oncology combined with a clinical professorship in paediatrics with a special focus on sarcomas

 

A clinical position as consultant of paediatric haematology and oncology at the Department of Children and Adolescents at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet  is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of paediatric haematology and oncology with special focus on sarcomas at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment to both the professorship and the consultancy.

The hospital

Rigshospitalet is a highly specialized hospital for the whole country with treatment, research, and education on the highest international level. Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The department for children and adolescents is like the hospital a large highly specialized department with approximately 6.000 admissions and 43,000 visits in the outpatient clinic per year.

The department covers hematology/oncology, liver- and gastroenterology, nephrology, rheumatology, neurology, rare diseases, cardiology, pulmonology, infectious diseases, immunology, bone marrow transplantation and palliative care. 

The hematology/oncology team consists of one professor, ten senior physicians and six department physicians, including the applicant. The team handles the outpatient and inpatient care on the hematology/oncology ward including international patients treated at the phase I and II unit.

The disease panorama covers malignant and benign hematological conditions, solid tumors and CNS tumors, all of which are treated at a highly specialized level.

In the hematology/oncology team, the doctors work interdisciplinary in close collaboration with the team nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and educators. There is also close collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgical specialties, relevant adult departments and interdisciplinary departments such as radiology, clinical chemistry, clinical physiology, pathology and the other departments for Children and Adolescents in the country.

The team pays great attention to young patients and the collaboration with the Youth Medical Knowledge Center in the department

Research and teaching

With the position as consultant in paediatrics and clinical professor of paediatrics, the Department of Children and Adolescents wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. This professorship will be an integrated part of the entire group of professors consisting of seven medical doctors and one physiotherapist.

Focus for research has throughout the years been in the field of hematology and oncology. However, research in a variety of fields is significant and growing just as phase II and III studies and treatment with new medicine has assumed a significant and growing role in the department. Latest Center for Data- and Impact research has been implemented.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in paediatrics and paediatric haematology and oncology

Conditions

To be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the faculty (the professorship) and the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet, Department of Children and Adolescents.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of department for Children and Adolescents. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Children and Adolescents, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.
