Postdoc in biomarker and register-based metabolic research

Are you passionate about biomarker research, large-scale cohort data, and the use of national health registries to address important questions in metabolic disease? Do you want to work at the interface of biological measurements, population data, and clinical outcomes?

We are looking for a motivated postdoc to join Nicolai J. Wewer Albrechtsen’s research group at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Bispebjerg Hospital. On a day-to-day basis, the postdoc will work within a section led by Marie Winther Achu. You will work on a fully funded project investigating the role of glucagon and GDF15 in gestational diabetes and later risk of diabetes. The project combines biomarker measurements, large-scale cohort data, and Danish national health registries, offering a unique opportunity to work at the interface of molecular, clinical, and epidemiological research. The position is for 2 years, starting September 1, 2026 (or as agreed), with the possibility of 1-year extension upon mutual agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct translational research integrating biomarker data, cohort data, and national health registries.
  • Link data from the Danish National Birth Cohort (DNBC) with Danish national health registries in collaboration with relevant authorities (e.g. through Research Service).
  • Coordinate communication with biobanks, including sample access, handling, and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with bioanalysts responsible for biomarker measurements and ensure alignment between laboratory workflows and data analysis.
  • Contribute to legal and ethical applications, including approvals related to biobank access, cohort data, and registry linkages.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and presentations.

What We Offer

  • An opportunity to work with one of the world’s most comprehensive birth cohorts and national health registries.
  • A dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment including physicians, bioanalysts, students, and researchers.
  • Strong support for translational and register-based research.
  • Opportunities for project management and scientific networking.
  • Participation in national and international scientific meetings.

What We Expect

  • A relevant master’s degree (e.g. molecular biology, biomedicine, bioinformatics, epidemiology, or a related field).
  • PhD degree or equivalent experience at postdoctoral/research assistant level.
  • Documented experience with data processing and analysis of large datasets, preferably using Python or similar tools.
  • Experience with Danish health registries either through the research environment “forskermaskinen” hosted by the Danish Health Data Authority or register-based research via Statistics Denmark.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to data quality and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
