Afdeling for Hjerne- og Nervekirurgi søger en overlæge i fuldtidsstilling pr. 1. september 2026 eller efter aftale.

Faglige kvalifikationer

Vi søger en speciallæge i neurokirurgi med dokumenteret høj faglig kompetence inden for kirurgisk behandling af patienter med intrakraniale tumorer.

Ansøgeren forventes at have betydelig klinisk erfaring med diagnostik, kirurgisk behandling og perioperativ håndtering af patienter med intrakraniale tumorer. Der lægges vægt på erfaring med tværfagligt samarbejde og deltagelse i udvikling af patientforløb, kvalitetsarbejde og forskning inden for området.

Det er en forventning, at den kommende overlæge kan påtage sig en central rolle i den faglige udvikling af behandlingen af patienter med intrakraniale tumorer og besidder de ledelsesmæssige kompetencer, der er nødvendige for at kunne varetage funktionen som teamansvarlig overlæge.

Der lægges vægt på, at ansøgeren:

• Er speciallæge i neurokirurgi.
• Har omfattende erfaring med kirurgisk behandling af patienter med intrakraniale tumorer.
• Har dokumenteret høj faglig kompetence og bidrager aktivt til udvikling af området.
• Har en betydelig og dokumenteret forskningsaktivitet inden for klinisk neurokirurgi med publikationer i anerkendte videnskabelige tidsskrifter og erfaring med at omsætte forskning til klinisk praksis.
• Har gode samarbejdsevner og erfaring med tværfagligt samarbejde.
• Har ledelseserfaring eller dokumenterede ledelseskompetencer samt interesse for faglig og organisatorisk ledelse.
• Har evne til at sikre høj kvalitet, patientsikkerhed og sammenhængende patientforløb.
• Kan bidrage til uddannelse, supervision og kompetenceudvikling af yngre læger.

Der forventes en aktiv deltagelse i den faglige ledelse af området, herunder udvikling af kvalitet, arbejdsgange, uddannelse og tværfagligt samarbejde.

Stillingen er en fuldtidsstilling og forbundet med bagvagtforpligtigelse ved Afdeling for Hjerne- og Nervekirurgi.

Om afdelingen

Afdeling for Hjerne- og Nervekirurgi ved Rigshospitalet er en af Europas førende neurokirurgiske afdelinger med speciale i diagnostik, behandling og rehabilitering af patienter med lidelser i hjernen og det perifere nervesystem.

Afdelingen ledes af en afdelingsledelse (cheflæge og chefsygeplejerske) og har et team på cirka 160 medarbejdere, herunder 20 neurokirurgiske speciallæger og to professorer. Den er en del af Neurocentret på Rigshospitalet, som består af syv specialiserede centre med samlet ca. 1.450 årsværk og 300 sengepladser. Afdelingen dækker patienter fra Region Hovedstaden, Region Sjælland samt Grønland og Færøerne, med et optageområde på ca. 2,85 millioner borgere. Vi har landsdelsfunktion på flere højtspecialiserede områder. Der udføres årligt ca. 3.450 operationer på hjerne og det perifere nervesystem, og der håndteres over 10.400 ambulante besøg. Afdelingen råder over et sengeafsnit med 29 senge, et semiintensivt afsnit med 8 senge samt en neurointensivafdeling med 16 senge.

De kliniske funktioner omfatter en bred vifte af neurokirurgiske subspecialer, herunder skallebasiskirurgi, cerebrovaskulær kirurgi, behandling af hjernetumorer, epilepsikirurgi, funktionel neurokirurgi, hydrocephalus, børne-neurokirurgi samt kirurgi på perifere nerver.

Operationsfaciliteterne omfatter fem operationsstuer med avancerede navigationssystemer, moderne mikroskop, intraoperativ CT, samt intraoperativ MR-skanner. Afdelingen har desuden Europas største erfaringer med Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) og er et Center of Excellence.

Afdelingen er aktiv inden for basal og klinisk forskning med fokus på neurokirurgisk innovation, neuro-onkologi inkl. meningeomer, børne-neurokirurgi, hydrocephalus samt funktionel neurokirurgi.

Afdelingen har et JTAAC-akkrediteret uddannelsesprogram (https://www.eans.org/page/jtaac-units ) og er en aktiv deltager i EANS. Derudover udbydes specialiserede kurser såsom "Copenhagen Skull Base Course" (https://skullbase.dk/ ) og "Copenhagen Peripheral Nerve Surgery Course" (https://peripheral-nerve-surgery.com/ ) som tiltrækker deltagere fra hele verden.

Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon – Department of Neurosurgery, Rigshospitalet

The Department of Neurosurgery at Rigshospitalet invites applications for a full-time position as Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon commencing on 1 September 2026 or as otherwise agreed.

Professional Qualifications

We are seeking a board-certified neurosurgeon with documented expertise in the surgical management of patients with intracranial tumors.

The successful candidate is expected to possess substantial clinical experience in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and perioperative management of patients with intracranial neoplasms. Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration and involvement in the development of clinical pathways, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities within intracranial tumors will be highly valued.

The appointed Senior Consultant is expected to assume a leading role in the continued development of the department’s program and to demonstrate the leadership competencies required to serve as a clinical lead.

We Expect You To:

• Be a board-certified specialist in Neurosurgery.
• Have extensive experience in the surgical treatment of patients with intracranial tumors.
• Demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise and contribute actively to the advancement of the specialty.
• Have a significant and well-documented research portfolio within clinical neurosurgery, including publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals, and experience translating research findings into clinical practice.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, including extensive experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
• Possess leadership experience or documented leadership competencies, together with a strong interest in both clinical and organizational leadership.
• Demonstrate a commitment to ensuring high standards of quality of care, patient safety, and integrated patient pathways.
• Contribute actively to the education, supervision, and professional development of residents and junior medical staff.

The position includes active participation in the professional leadership of the service, including the development of quality initiatives, clinical workflows, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

On-Call Duties

This is a full-time position and includes participation in the department’s senior consultant on-call rota.

About the Department

The Department of Neurosurgery at Rigshospitalet is one of Europe's leading neurosurgical centers, specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with disorders of the brain and peripheral nervous system.

The department is led by a Head of Department (Chief Physician) and Chief Nursing Officer and employs approximately 180 staff members, including 20 consultant neurosurgeons and two professors. It forms part of the Neuroscience Centre at Rigshospitalet, comprising seven specialized departments with approximately 1,450 full-time employees and 300 inpatient beds.

The department serves patients from the Capital Region of Denmark, Region Zealand, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands, covering a catchment population of approximately 2.85 million people. The department provides highly specialized tertiary and quaternary neurosurgical services in several areas.

Annually, the department performs approximately 3,450 neurosurgical procedures and manages more than 10,400 outpatient visits. Facilities include a 29-bed neurosurgical ward, an 8-bed high-dependency unit (HDU), and a 16-bed neurocritical care unit (NCCU).

Clinical services encompass the full spectrum of neurosurgical subspecialties, including:

• Skull base surgery
• Cerebrovascular neurosurgery
• Neuro-oncology
• Epilepsy surgery
• Functional neurosurgery
• Hydrocephalus surgery
• Pediatric neurosurgery
• Peripheral nerve surgery

The surgical facilities include five dedicated operating theatres equipped with advanced neuronavigational systems, state-of-the-art surgical microscopes, intraoperative CT, and intraoperative MRI.

The department has the largest clinical experience in Europe with Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) and is recognized as a Centre of Excellence in this field.

Research activities encompass both basic and clinical neuroscience, with strengths in neurosurgical innovation, neuro-oncology including meningioma research, pediatric neurosurgery, hydrocephalus, and functional neurosurgery.

The department hosts a JTAAC-accredited training program and is an active contributor to the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS). Furthermore, the department organizes internationally renowned educational courses, including the Copenhagen Skull Base Course and the Copenhagen Peripheral Nerve Surgery Course, attracting participants from around the world.
