Consultancy in Neurology combined with a clinical professorship (Chair) in Neurology
A clinical position as consultant of neurology at the Department of Neurology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor (chair) of Neurology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Neurology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department
The Department of Neurology at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital provides comprehensive neurological care, serving a population of approximately 610,000 inhabitants. The department delivers both acute and elective neurological services at the main specialty level across a broad spectrum of neurological disorders.
The department is currently undergoing a major phase of development and consolidation, creating a unique opportunity for clinicians to contribute to the establishment and shaping of a large, modern neurological service within one of Denmark’s major hospital organizations. The ambition is to build a strong clinical and academic environment characterized by high professional standards, interdisciplinary collaboration, coherent patient pathways, and a supportive and engaging workplace culture.
Education and training are core priorities. Supervision and clinical bedside teaching of junior doctors, other healthcare professionals, and medical students are integral components of daily clinical practice. The department is also committed to maintaining a strong research profile and encourages active participation in clinical, translational, and collaborative research activities, as well as quality improvement initiatives.
During the initial years, the department will be located at the Glostrup site as part of Amager and Hvidovre Hospital. The department will subsequently relocate to newly renovated facilities at the Hvidovre site, with the move expected in 2029. The long-term vision is to establish a highly regarded neurological department combining excellent patient care, strong research activity, and high-quality education within a dynamic and collaborative academic environment.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The consultant will contribute to the clinical activities of the Department of Neurology at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital, including both in-patient neurological services and associated outpatient clinics.
Clinical work will include the assessment and management of patients with a broad spectrum of neurological disorders, including general and acute neurology, stroke, headache, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and dementia.
Research focus areas include stroke and headache.
The consultant reports to the Head of Department and will work closely with the clinical leadership within the department.
Research and teaching
With this new position the Department of Neurology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Neurology.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the department of neurology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of neurology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre.
