A position as senior researcher at the Department of Dermatology and Venerology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as professor of Dermato-venerology with special focus on experimental photobiology and keratinocyte cancer at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the senior researcher position.

About the department

We are a department with a high level of expertise and activity, handling over 100,000 patient contacts annually. We treat patients with all types of skin and sexually transmitted diseases as well as hard-to-heal wounds. The department comprises several specialized clinics and units for, among other things, psoriasis, skin cancer, moles, eczema, wounds, sexually transmitted diseases, light and laser treatments, as well as an inpatient ward for patients requiring hospitalization for skin and wound disorders.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The Department of Dermatology and Venereology has a highly specialized research division that includes laboratories and an animal facility. The applicant is expected to manage the animal facility, which involves correspondence with the animal inspectorate, coordinating inspections, obtaining research approvals, reporting statistics, conducting animal studies, and overseeing health monitoring. In addition to these responsibilities, the applicant will be responsible for maintaining laboratory functions and equipment, including LC-MS and immunohistochemistry. They will also be expected to train new staff in laboratory and animal facility procedures. Furthermore, participation in the Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Animal Welfare Committee is required, as it is a mandatory component of conducting animal research.

Research and teaching

With the new position as professor of Dermato-venerology with special focus on experimental photobiology and keratinocyte cancer, the Department of Dermatology and Venerology wishes to strengthen research. 

Qualifications
Senior Researcher applicants must be specialists in conducting animal research and managing an animal facility, preferably with experience as an "AOD" (Ansvarlig for Overholdelse af Dyreforsøgsloven). They should have experience with animal welfare committee work (DVO – Dyrevelfærdsorgan) as well as expertise in photobiology, including human studies, ethical committee approvals, and data approvals. Additionally, applicants should have experience with analytical methods such as LC-MS and mass spectrometry imaging. A demonstrated track record of supervising students and securing research grants is also required.

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the senior researcher position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants or senior researchers at the Hospital.

Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Regions (Danske Regioner) and the relevant professional organization and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As professor at least 30 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for work in agreement with the head of Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg.
