Consultancy/senior physician in Emergency Medicine or other relevant speciality combined with a clinical professorship in Innovative Technologies for Acute Cardiovascular Disease

A clinical position as consultant or senior physician of Cardiology at the Department of Cardiology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Innovative Technologies for Acute Cardiovascular Disease at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department

• The department has 50 beds with approximately 5,300 admissions annually and an outpatient clinic with approximately 60,000 contacts annually. We receive patients with all types of cardiac diagnoses.
• The department is very research-active, and has 8 professors and 5 associate professors, in addition to a large number of PhD students, clinical assistants and research year students.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The clinical position within the Department of Cardiology is focused on arrhythmia, inherited heart disease and cardiac arrest survivors. The applicant will serve as a consultant or senior physician in arrhythmia and inherited heart disease. The applicant will oversee a dedicated clinic for cardiac arrest survivors to ensure state-of-the-art diagnostic and neurocognitive workup in collaboration with the neurology department. Finally, the consultant will work closely with the Emergency Department and Copenhagen Emergency Medical Services to improve pre-hospital triage, treatment and care as well as in-hospital treatment for patients with heart disease. The applicant will also work to improve treatment for vulnerable patient groups with such as elderly, ethnic minority groups and patients with low health literacy across all phases of treatment including pre-hospital, in-hospital and outpatient clinics.   

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant or senior physician in Cardiology and clinical professor of Innovative Technologies for Acute Cardiovascular Disease the Department of Cardiology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants can be board-certified Emergency Medicine or other relevant speciality  with documented experience in cardiac arrest survivors. Extensive experience in pre-hospital triage and treatment, as well as in the care of vulnerable patient populations, including ethnic minorities and patients with low health literacy, is required.

Conditions

Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte.

Salary and Employment Conditions

The position is subject to the Collective Agreement for Specialist Doctors and Consultant Physicians (Overlæger) and the applicable Working Time Agreement between the Danish Regions and the relevant medical professional organization.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the department of Cardiology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Cardiology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte.
