About the department

The Parker Institute/Osteoarthritis Outpatient Clinic combines osteoarthritis treatment—with a special focus on the knee joint—with research into diagnosis, treatment programs, and preventive measures for this condition. The department is led by a rheumatology specialist and an administrative manager, both of whom report to the hospital administration. The interdisciplinary staff consists of medical doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists organized in various research subunits. Together, they collaborate in a unified effort to reduce the burden of degenerative musculoskeletal disorders at all stages, with a primary focus on osteoarthritis.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The Osteoarthritis Clinic receives approximately 500–600 new patients each year, primarily with knee osteoarthritis, for non-surgical treatment. The clinic also performs around 1,200 ultrasound examinations of joints annually. The department is actively involved in the planning and implementation of non-surgical osteoarthritis treatment programs in the Capital Region of Denmark. Its focus is on refining diagnosis and treatment by participating in the development and testing of new therapies, including cutting-edge intra-articular treatments for osteoarthritis.
