Consultancy in haematology combined with a clinical professorship in Haematology with special focus on Allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
A clinical position as consultant of haematology at the Department of Haematology at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Haematology with special focus on Allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Haematology, Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Organisation: The Department of Haematology is a specialized medical department with 42 patient beds, including 15 beds for allogeneic stem cell transplantation and a large outpatient clinic, serving on a referral basis patients with benign and malignant haematological disorders. The department is subdivisioned in 3 different units, 2 of which have out patient clinics integrated into the inpatient ward. One is specialized in lymfomas and multiple myeloma, a second in allogeneic stem cell transplantation and acute leukemia and a third, which has no bedward, taking care of non-intensively treated acute leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative disorders and benign haematological disorders including coagulation disorders.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department: The Department is heavily engaged in educational and scientific duties within all aspects in the field of haematology.
Attached to the department are at present several specialized research laboratories concentrating on epigenetics of various haematological malignancies including a programme for translational haematology in MDS and AML, which includes an in vitro drug screening laboratory; chronic lymphatic leukemia and Mantle cell lymphoma; multiple myeloma; and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. These units are provided by the Department with basic economical and operational support but are otherwise operated by external grants for operating costs, staff, ph.d.students, post.docs, and other scientists active in the unit.
Clinically, the department is a frontrunner in outpatient handling of a variety of complex medical treatments including outpatient administration of chemotherapy for acute leukemia patients, out patient handling of patients undergoing induction and consolidation chemotherapy for leukemias and outpatient handling of patients undergoing high dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell support for multiple myeloma and malignant lymphoma.
In addition, there is a large clinical trial unit with 14 research nurses, two assistants and 3 technicians involved in clinical research projects including phase 1 trials. The unit is responsible for more than 35 actively recruiting clinical trials within most haematological disease groups including trials for patients with acute and chronic graft versus host disease. The department is involved in a large research database platform entitled Persimmune for immunosuppressed patients at the hospital including patients with haematological diagnoses. This gives rise to several interesting clinical projects within haematology and with an immense potential for future interesting investigations.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in Haematology and clinical professor of Haematology with special focus on Allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation at the Department of Haematology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Haematology.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Haematology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of Haematology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Haematology at Rigshospitalet.
