Consultancy in Neurology combined with a Clinical Professorship in Neurology with special focus on Dementia
A clinical position as Consultant in Neurology at the Department of Neurology, Zealand University Hospital – Roskilde is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department
The Department of Neurology at Zealand University Hospital provides specialized neurological care for a catchment population of approximately 850,000 inhabitants in Region Zealand.
The department encompasses acute and elective neurological services across Roskilde, Køge, Nykøbing Falster hospitals and covers all major subspecialties within neurology, including stroke, multiple sclerosis, headache, movement disorders, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, and cognitive disorders.
The department has a strong academic profile and is an integral part of Copenhagen University Hospitals, with close collaboration with Rigshospitalet, Odense University Hospital, and primary care partners across the region.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The clinical services include both acute neurology and subspecialty outpatient clinics.
The department has a dedicated Cognitive and Dementia Unit responsible for diagnostics, management, and follow-up of patients with dementia and cognitive impairment.
Clinical work involves interdisciplinary collaboration with geriatrics, psychiatry, neuropsychology, and radiology, as well as with the municipalities on post-diagnostic care and rehabilitation pathways.
The consultant in this position will have primary responsibility for the dementia field, including patient care, supervision, and quality development.
Research and teaching
With the new position as Consultant in Neurology and Clinical Professor of Neurology with special focus on Dementia, the department wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and academic development within dementia and cognitive disorders. Research areas may include biomarker development, early diagnosis, neuroimaging, treatment strategies, and organization of care for patients with dementia. The position also includes responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in neurology and dementia at the University of Copenhagen.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialists in neurology and have documented academic qualifications at a level corresponding to a full professorship.
A strong research record in dementia or cognitive neurology, including publications and supervision experience, is required.
Experience with interdisciplinary and translational collaboration will be considered an advantage.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work at the Department of Neurology, Zealand University Hospital, in agreement with the Head of Department.
The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Neurology, Zealand University Hospital. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Head of the Department of Neurology.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists, and between Region Zealand and the University of Copenhagen.
