Consultancy in Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine combined with a clinical professorship (chair) in Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine
A clinical position as consultant of Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine at the Department of Medicine at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor (chair) of Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

About the department
The department contains the speciality of Infectious diseases, respiratory medicine, geriatrics and endocrinology as well as general internal medicine. A staff of approximately 600 manage the diagnosis and treatment of 12,000 inpatient admissions per year as well as 85,000 outpatient visits. Each of the specialties provide highly specialized treatment and conduct research at a high international level.
We have dedicated researchers in infectious diseases, pulmonary diseases, geriatrics, as well as endocrinology and metabolism, distributed across several research units throughout the hospital.
We have PhD students, research-active senior physicians, and five professors in the department, one of whom is also affiliated with the Department of Oncology. In recent years, we have developed close collaboration with several highly specialized departments at Herlev and Gentofte Hospitals.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
In respiratory medicine, the department manages treatment for COPD, interstitial lung diseases (ILD), lung cancer, pulmonary infections—including tuberculosis—asthma, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and other related conditions. Furthermore, there is a focus on prevention of readmissions of patients with chronic pulmonary disease and NIV at home.
Research and teaching
With this new position the Department of Medicine, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Head of Department of Medicine, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte. Additional support and details on the working conditions must also be negotiated with the Head of the Department of Medicine.
